Set in the mid 2000's among the backdrop of the emo phenomenon, High School Lullaby tells the story of Hayley, a high school junior and lead singer of her pop-punk band, on the day she finds out that her parents are being relocated for their jobs and the consequential news that they have to pack up and move in less than two weeks. Usually this would come with the normal teenager huffing and gruffing if it weren't for the fact that Hayley's band is competing in the annual Battle of the Bands the literal day before the move.  So now, how does Hayley tell her best friends that not only is she moving away but that their band that they love now has a fairly imminent expiration date?

WHY EMO?

The easy is answer is "Why not?" But I can do far better than that.  The emo craze lasted maybe a decade, virtually half a blip on the cultural timeline, but it made it's impact is unquestionable. This was also the time that I was in high school and this was the music that got me through almost everything in those years. This is not just a film to me, it's a love letter.  And this was a time that, by and large, has been forgotten about.  It's high time that this era gets its proper cultural immortality and rather than waiting for someone to do, why not do it myself? I mean, when else could you go outside with midnight black hair, thick black eye liner, a denim jacket clad in safety pins, pay for something by taking out your duct tape wallet, and slide back into your Chevy Cavalier because your skinny jeans won't let your legs behind, and not be looked at as out-of-place?

BEHIND THE CAMERA SIGNIFICANCE

Every script has it's own personal significance to the writer and (sometimes) director.  This one is no exception.  It's always been a dream to go back to my hometown of Ellicott City, MD to film my very first feature as a way to 'give back' to the community that raised me and encouraged my love and pursuit of the arts.  I've entered into talks with the Howard County Board of Education to secure Centennial High School, my alma mater, as my main filming location.  In addition to filming in my old stomping grounds, the music that will score this film will also be made up of local bands reminiscent of the 2000s sound that this film among.  I currently have agreements in place that would feature the emo stylings of The Last Second Save and Heartbent (the latter will be appearing in the film as Hayley and her band).
