Hitting the Wall is an interdisciplinary performance project created by Brazilian-born artist Glauco Araujo, bringing together theater, dance, literature, music, movement, and live performance.
The project develops in dialogue with Carioca, a novel in progress whose fictional world intersects with the performance while remaining a distinct work. Together, the two projects investigate identity, migration, memory, family history, masculinity, belonging, artistic ambition, and reinvention across cultures.
The work has evolved through public presentations, artistic research, and institutional collaborations across Brazil, Mexico, the United States, and Europe. Throughout 2026, performances became laboratories for development, allowing text, movement, music, space, and encounters with audiences to continually reshape the work.
Current development focuses on the relationship between performance and fiction, the ways geography and migration influence identity, and how personal and collective memory can be carried through the body, language, and live presence.
The project continues to grow through residencies, workshops, public performances, literary development, international partnerships, and community-based presentations.
