Hollywood Hits is an orchestral album that will demonstrate new ways to record our favorite soundtracks. The album will have fourteen cues spanning fives decades: The Magnificent Seven (1960), Back to the Future (1985), Jurassic Park (1993), Pirates of the Caribbean (2003), the Avengers (2012),a and more.
The project will be recorded in Los Angeles with a union orchestra at the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage at Sony, one of the largest motion picture scoring venues in the world. The main scoring area has remained unchanged since the 1930s to preserve the unmatched acoustics and unique ambiance that have impressed generations of filmmakers around the globe.
In addition to just being a "fun" album with broad appeal, the album will be the foundation of a larger education project. The album will be made using new techniques, emphasizing the "seeing sound" philosophy of recording and mixing. Those recordings can then used to create side-by-side comparisons of what good sound is and can be, as well as mixing tutorials and demonstrations.
The project will be produced by Christian Amonson, recorded engineer and producer who has worked with ensembles like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Pacific Symphony, "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band, Choral Arts Society of Washington, LA Opera, Pacific Chorale, and more.
