Historically, the spirit of a city was epitomized by its downtown, the center of commerce, government and entertainment. The architecture was majestic, regal and imposing. Downtown was vibrant and passionate, making it the heart and soul of the community. My plan is to help restore the grandeur of our downtown by renovating and revitalizing The Hollywood, a 1940’s art deco movie and performance palace. Although dilapidated, forlorn and exhausted, it is not without hope. Sitting dark and silent it waits for the opportunity to again light up the night and dazzle its patrons!
We have a duty, to save, when possible, the neglected treasures of our past. This restored performance center will be a place where as families and the community can come together in an affordable venue.
The Hollywood stage hosted live performances, political debates, union meetings and movie stars. It was part of the heart of our community. If we can restore this theater into a functioning venue for performances, art films, classic movies, independent films, local artists, school performances, charity events, community events and activities, etc. we will again light up the night.
