Hudson Valley Improv is an award-winning improv training center that primarily offers classes, private workshops and live shows in improvisation. We also do specialized private coaching for solo performers.
We teach adults. Our method of improv was developed by actor Samantha Jones over many years of teaching and performing. The method is called Improv Empowerment, and it is filled with mind blowing joy. Her method is for anyone who is curious enough to try. The training involves a complete release of personal blocks and insecurity. We teach you how to not only let go of anything holding you back creatively, we show you how to fall in love with exactly the creative person you are. We do this with personal empowerment, deep ensemble work and a unique blend of actor training techniques we find imperative for a skilled improvisor.
Jones took her first improv class in college. At that point, after many years of being a professional actor already under her belt, improv released a deep part of her creativity she hadn't felt in years. When she went back to NYC, she immediately started teaching her own classes and working with any improv troupe she could find.
After teaching her method of improv empowerment in NYC for over 20 years, Samantha Jones moved to the Hudson Valley and founded Hudson Valley Improv Training Center in 2014. Once word spread, our classes were filled with curious people from all backgrounds. "I've always wanted to take an improv class!" became a regular saying around here, and we were thrilled to bring that opportunity to our students.
Hudson Valley Improv is an open, supportive, safe and ridiculously fun community of creative humans with diverse backgrounds. Our creativity, classes and events ae all designed to support the personal empowerment of each of our students. Each of us was born to play, we simply forgot how.
Our work continues to grow.
