About

ABOUT IN PROGRESS:

In Progress's goal is to equip young artists with the creative and technical experiences required to spearhead the development of a full-scale production, while connecting them with trained industry mentors who can support their artistic and professional growth. In Progress is kicking off its mission with a two-week run of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure.

This production will serve as a proof of concept for In Progress’s long-term vision: a model for small-scale theatre that empowers early-career artists, while cultivating creative excellence and innovation.

PRODUCTION OVERVIEW:

A short, independent run of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure with the goal of highlighting the diverse perspective of a new generation of theatre artists. This is a project by young artists for everyone, prioritizing the development of emerging talent and broad accessibility in a new, intimate setting.

WHY MEASURE FOR MEASURE?

“The play concludes in Shakespeare’s most famous silence, and, in many ways, spirals out of it. Against the backdrop of a society gone wrong, Measure for Measure asks us to bear witness to a world where morality cannot sustain itself. In the play’s Vienna, the line between the state and the individual is blurred beyond recognition, and justice turns out to be a matter of bargaining. I am interested in the play’s uncleanliness and its examination of how far you can stretch one’s sense of righteousness before it permanently deforms into perversion. The play mirrors the weird dance between ethical numbness and dogmatic belief that feels all too relevant to our present-day sensibilities. It asks us to attest to the systemic undoing of a human being caught in the razor’s edge between destruction and survival.”
