New Orleans, LA - Artist Brittany Markert presents Domestic Interiors & Other Tales, an immersive exhibition in collaboration with artist Sandy Loaf, on view October 29 - November 1, 2026, at the In Rooms Foundation in New Orleans. There will be a VIP opening on October  29th with the exhibition open on October 30th and 31st.  

The immersive exhibition takes place in Markert’s In Rooms Foundation space at 1014 Royal st, where visitors will be able to enter for the first time. The various interiors of the foundation will feature Markert’s debut of larger scale silver gelatin prints and live installation elements, including her “Saran wrap” character (depicted in the work Wrapped in Plastic) brought to life, alongside Shoaf’s crafted masks, sculptures, films, animatronics and puppets. Together, the artists’ work turns these interiors into psychological spaces where visitors can walk amongst the artworks, live performances and installation elements and encounter the dreamlike universe Markert has been developing in her larger practice. 

Domestic Interiors & Other Tales mark an expansion of Markert’s largely solitary, image-based practice into a collective, multimedia experience. Across her practice, Markert constructs staged interiors as psychic chambers, using the body as a site where unconscious conflict, fragmentation, and transformation are made visible. Through the convergence of image, installation, sculpture, film, performance and immersive elements, these private symbolic worlds are reactivated in public, transforming the work from a fixed object into a living encounter between image, interaction, body, and space. 

The In Rooms Foundation is an artist-led foundation initiative founded by Markert and dedicated to supporting artists and creative practitioners. Through its programming and support structures, the foundation seeks to make artistic development more accessible while fostering creative integrity, lifelong practice, and deeper engagement with the unseen dimensions of creative life.

Support will help fund transportation costs, installation materials, equipment, darkroom printing materials,  the direct costs of presenting the work publicly and artist compensation.

About Brittany Markert

Brittany Markert (b. 1987, USA) is a New Orleans based photographer, darkroom printer, bookmaker, filmmaker, and educator. Her project spanning over a decade, In Rooms, explores the unconscious,  ritual, sexuality, grief, and psychological integration through staged interior worlds.

Her work has been exhibited in the United States, France, Denmark, and Belgium, including  Brandts Museum, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art,  The Untitled Space in New York and La Luz de Jesus in Los Angeles. Markert’s silver gelatin prints are held in private collections in more than twenty countries. In 2017, she expanded In Rooms into 16mm filmmaking, furthering the project’s dialogue with mental health, inner life, surrealism, and the writings of Carl Jung. In 2020, Fragments was selected in the New Orleans Film Festival.  In 2026, she is in the early stages of building In Rooms Foundation, an infrastructure of care, support, education and affordable access for artists, women and seekers of truth.

Sadie Shoaf (known as Sandy Loaf) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Pittsburgh,  Pennsylvania. After exploring traditional methods of painting, Sadie founded Three Pigs Vintage in 2012  which led her to creating hand painted wearables and costumes, and constructing sets, photoshoots, and  performances that showcased her paintings. Since then she has played with various ways of contorting  the human form, whether that’s through performance pieces, masks, or sculptures of various creatures. 

Sadie began pursuing filmmaking in 2024 and installations to build out worlds that combine her different  mediums into one experience. Currently, she is working on a trilogy film series which recently premiered under the name ‘Smoker’s Lounge’ (2026)
