In Search of Magical Waters is the pilot for a series of short films that will explore the creative lives of artists in America.
Part documentary, part reality show, this road-trip concept presents artists in a whole new way as cameras follow their search for inspiration and capture what really happens behind the studio door.
Sumptuous cinematography offers a vicariously experiential glimpse into how artists “see” and reality-style filming tells their unique and fascinating stories in an entertaining way.
PILOT SYNOPSIS:
IN SEARCH OF MAGICAL WATERS
Adriano Manocchia left a jet-setting career as a photojournalist in New York City to become an artist, teaching himself to paint in the style of the Old Masters. Tapping into his emotional resonance with water he took up fly-fishing, moved to the country, and is now one of the leading sporting artists in the United States today, painting water landscapes from the perspective of someone who has spent countless hours standing in rivers.
For over three decades, Manocchia has traveled from the Battenkill River in northeastern New York to Yellowstone National Park and beyond, looking for “magical waters” that provide the inspiration for his paintings.
In Search of Magical Waters takes the viewer on an extraordinary excursion both in the studio and on the river - from the ups and downs of the creative process to the environmental and spiritual philosophy behind the “sacred art of fly-fishing.”
The challenge of bringing the zen-like experience of “being at one with nature” into the studio and putting it on canvas is heightened by the artist’s concern for the future of these rivers.
In the last 35 years I’ve been fishing and painting, I’ve seen a change in the environment. I want to paint these scenes because I feel they are disappearing in front of me.

HELP BRING THIS FILM TO LIFE!
Phase 1: Our initial goal is to raise $10,000.
Most of the footage for the pilot, In Search of Magical Waters, has been filmed. Your donation will assist with the costs of finishing production, editing, color grading, music licensing and sound mastering. Reaching this goal will allow us to finish the film.
Phase 2: An additional $5,000 will get the film out to the world.
This would go a long way towards getting the film in screening venues and film festivals so more people like you can see it! Costs include insurance, legal fees, copyrighting, festival fees and publicity. The more we raise, the further the film can travel, creating more opportunities for sponsorship of the entire docuseries.

A NOTE FROM THE PRODUCER/DIRECTOR
Serena Kovalosky is the creator of the concept and the producer, director and writer of the Magical Waters pilot.
The idea for this art docuseries was inspired by a summer of binge-watching the Food Network. As I realized how much it contributed to the expansion of the “foodie culture” in America, I dreamed of a similar awakening towards art.
I then began exploring how shows like David Gelb’s “Chef’s Table” and Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” might help me craft a new narrative to facilitate a greater understanding and appreciation of the artist’s world.
The mission of this art docuseries is to bust through the sense of intimidation many people have about art, and use that creative space to explore life, culture and issues of our day. I plan to feature a significant percentage of female artists throughout the series, who continue to be vastly underrepresented in the art world.
This is a series for everyone who loves art – artists and non-artists alike - and those who are simply curious about creativity and living an artful life.

This campaign is about much more than raising funds. We hope the film In Search of Magical Waters will inspire everyone and promote an understanding of the importance of art in our society.
