About

She Came By Train is a narrative feature film about the slow loss of a friendship. Written and directed by Tariro Chinyanganya, this intimate two-hander follows two best friends over the course of 48 hours in New York City, as a long-awaited reunion surfaces a distance between them neither of them know how to navigate.

She Came By Train is committed to portraying female friendship with honesty and without sentimentality, specifically how love can remain over time, the ways people change, and the specific loneliness of sitting across from someone you used to know completely.

Relevant comparisons: Queen of South meets Aftersun through a BIPOC lens.

Logline:

When Evyn invites her estranged college best friend Flora to spend the weekend in New York, what begins as a reunion becomes a reckoning for the friendship they've outgrown, and the past versions of themselves they've been holding onto.

Film Synopsis:

When Evyn, a self-assured but emotionally guarded New York transplant, invites her estranged college best friend Flora to spend the weekend with her, four years of unspoken distance unearths the fault lines within their friendship. As old tensions surface and small betrayals accumulate, the two friends find that everything within their relationship has shifted. They quickly learn that both women must reckon with a truth they came hoping to disprove: some friendships begin and end between who you were and who you've become.

Budget Goal:

The project is a female-led production with a majority BIPOC cast and crew, developed as both a festival-ready standalone feature and a proof of concept for a limited series. We are seeking to raise $400,000 to make and market this film.

We’re raising funds to cover production expenses including:
  • Locations and prep fees
  • Cast and crew wages
  • All associated production costs such as equipment, sound, lighting, etc.
  • Insurance and permits

All donations will go directly towards making the film such as production costs, including cast, crew, equipment, post-production, and distribution.
