We Used to Be Friends is a narrative feature film about the end of a friendship. Written by Tariro Chinyanganya, this slice of life, two hander focuses on what it feels like to lose a friend in real time, following two best friends over the course of one weekend as we watch their once strong friendship unravel. We Used To Be Friends aims to normalize the grief, confusion, and loneliness that comes with losing a close friend.
Logline:
Two estranged college best friends reunite for a weekend in New York, only to find that time and silence have brought them to a painful truth: not all friendships are meant to last.
Film Synopsis:
When Evyn, a self-assured but emotionally guarded New York transplant, invites her estranged college best friend Flora to spend the weekend with her, a seemingly casual reunion unearths the fault lines within their friendship. Over the course of two days, buried tensions rise to the surface as they try to reconnect, only to confront the fact that the version of their bond they are chasing may no longer exist.
Budget Goal:
The project is a female-led production with a majority BIPOC cast and crew, developed as both a festival-ready standalone feature and a proof of concept for a limited series. We are seeking to raise $200,000 to make and market this film.
We’re raising funds to cover production expenses including:
Location rentals (NYC apartment + exteriors)
Cast and crew wages
All associated production costs such as equipment, sound, lighting, etc.
Insurance + permits
Post-production + festival submissions
All donations will go directly towards making the film such as production costs, including cast, crew, equipment, post-production, and distribution. We Used To Be Friends_Info Sheet.pdf3.91 MB
