About

ARTis Love + Action uses art as a vehicle of education for social justice. We support organizations advance their mission through experiential programming, workshops and consultation. Our vision is to create a hub for collaboration and love that will feed the fields of education, community organizing and the arts to form critical connections in a fragmented world.

DONATE to send 20 children to ARTIS camp for the summer session of 2017!

Do you remember going to summer camp as a child or do you wish you had? For many school aged children summer camp is the best part of the year and often times it is where they may make new friends and find their gift or talent.

We have come to recognize the huge value of arts and culture in our society and become aware that these necessities for creativity and growth are not always accessible to all. There's a strong relationship between arts and cultural engagement and educational attainment. We see an improvement in literacy when young people take part in drama and library activities. That is why ARTIS has created summer camp that will service children in the Hoboken community would normally not have that opportunity to do so without your help.

Hoboken is a Tale of Two Cities; while many enjoy the ability to send their kids to the many cultural programs that exist in the city, there are no longer free Art-based summer camps that exist to support the low-income families. And there are none that focus on developing leadership through social consciousness. Many families struggle to make sure their basic needs are met and can’t afford the luxury of sending their children to summer camp. We believe that finances should not be a reason to not have access to the arts. This is why we have been gathering people willing to donate their time, expertise and artistic craft to this project. Still, we want this program to be sustainable and still seek to cover costs. Our goal is $10,000 by the time the curtain closes in the Final Showcase,
which will be held at Mile Square Theater in Hoboken.

We believe in the power of questions, dialogue, problem posing, and envisioning a future that we can all co-create. All of our workshops are interactive, participant-centered, fun and focused on building trust through genuine connection in the group. We draw on the methodologies from Theater of the Oppressed, Social Justice Pedagogy, and Asset Based Community Development. We pride ourselves on culturally responsive and authentic practices that lay the foundation for social emotional learning. Through this practice we offer tools for organizations to realize their vision in the areas of youth-development, community building, professional development and event production.
