This project is focused on bringing to light the struggles that so many people suffer from but are never seen by others.
Mental Illness, poverty, wage inequities, children of poverty, racial inequities... They surround us but we often never see them.
We don't see the child who goes to school and is teased because their clothes are not clean and they are unbathed. We don't see the child who goes home to have cereal for dinner because the adults are getting high. We don't see the mom struggling to raise a family because she is only receiving 87 cent on the dollar for her work compared to her counterparts. We don't see the woman who can barely leave the house for work because her mental illness has once again left her incapacitated.
Through thoughtful mixed media design primarily from found objects, I will create thought provoking pieces that aim to enlighten the viewer and educate them on ways they can assist in bringing about change.
