The Sankofa Global Project’s “Build Your Own Wakanda Program” will continue to give students of Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation’s (CBEDC) School’s Out New York City (SONYC) program, the tools and space to come together as one community to continue to build their own “Now Town” smart city Presented in partnership with Collab Fabrication Lab and Innovation Studio, the Brooklyn NAACP Education Committee, CBEDC, as well as, volunteer efforts of industry experts, the “Build Your Own Wakanda” Hack-a-Thon will offer space for students and creatives to come together and design, build, and demo features and/or products – for “Now Town.” in an micro-startup timescale idea creation to execution finite-time process.

The “Build Your Own Wakanda” Hackathon is an innovative proving ground for new ideas that stimulate the creativity of participants and foster problem-solving and risk-taking in a casual environment. The diversity of participants guarantees a multitude of perspectives and the time limit on hackathons creates a uniquely productive atmosphere that forces participants to distill their visionary concepts down to actionable solutions; thus, increasing the chance of finding innovative fixes to persistent problems.

We are bringing together bright minds to present workshops that are idea-focused on a wide range of subjects focused on students from the cradle to career to foster learning, inspiration and wonder – and provoke conversations that matter. Elevate community and culture Examine the Intersections of Education, S.T.E.A.M, Design Thinking, and Making Develop capacity and agency with proactive, interdisciplinary & project based workshops Students present their ongoing/completed projects Sankofa Global Project entrepreneurial cohorts showcase their idea/product/service

The 21st Century Education for All is an opportunity to connect with a diverse, engaged community. The education program is rooted in makerism and the arts. The philosophy of the education conference revolves equity and inclusion. The workshop presenters spend at least 60% of their activities engaging participants with hands-on activities. The projects include integrating science and math learning by designing and creating pop-up books, designing and building private networks for communities that do not have broadband access, supporting teaching artists who will work with participants to create plays from their personal stories, robotics demonstrations, and supporting participating NYC maker spaces.
