About

THE ITALIAN AND AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHTS PROJECT HAS THREE PRINCIPAL GOALS:

  • To raise the awareness of contemporary Italian and American writing for the stage in the Americas  and in Italy and to foster the development of collaborative relationships between playwrights from Italy and American theatre artists and vice versa

  • To facilitate the collaborations between the authors, translators, directors, actors, publishers, and producers through workshops, meetings
and exchanges in Italy and the US

  • The publication of a translated anthology of the selected plays
  • Audio-drama professional productions of the translated plays

The Italian and American Playwrights Project aims to promote collaboration between playwrights, translators, and artists from Italy and the US through events, readings, and audio-drama productions. Since its first American edition in 2015, the project has introduced the latest works of various Italian playwrights to the American audience, all fully translated and published in the USA by Segal Theatre Center Publications. In 2016, the project dedicated a special edition to Stefano Massini's writing, catching the attention of The Play Company, resulting in the Off-Broadway production of "Intractable Woman" (Donna non rieducabile) in 2018. The second special edition in 2018 focused on Marco Martinelli's writing and the work of Teatro delle Albe, leading to collaborations with PAJ - Performing Art Journal and the selection of New York as one of the stops for the Dante Project. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the third edition of the Italian Playwrights Project took a new direction, producing audio dramas instead of the usual industrial readings for text promotion. www.italianandamericanplaywrightsproject.com
