The j.garcía dance company is a newly founded modern/contemporary dance company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Under the artistic direction of Jacqueline M. García, the company’s purpose and passion is to advance modern/contemporary dance as essential and vital to the Albuquerque arts community.
The inaugural program to launch the j.garcía dance company will take place on February 6 & 7, 2015 with the world-premiere of TUNING at N4th Art Center in Albuquerque, NM. TUNING is an original evening-length dance work choreographed by Artistic Director, Jacqueline M. García and co-created with the inspiring impulses and motivations of the six founding members of the j.garcía dance company. Through the abstracted language of dance and movement, the dancers explore multi-layered concepts of centering, duration, sustainment, deep listening and finding, flocking, order and chaos, emerging and dissolving, universal forces, and human relationships. TUNING addresses existential tensions and anxieties and probes the processes of finding balance and “place” both within and without.
The j.garcía dance company is comprised of a committed group of thinking dancers, in which our movement practice is as much philosophical as it is physical. By engaging in the practice, process, and presentation of crafted dance choreography, we seek to find a deeper understanding of the nature of impermanence and time, mind and memory, and the transformative essences of birth, life, and death.
The ultimate goal of the j.garcía dance company is to form an ongoing and sustainable resident modern/contemporary dance company based in Albuquerque, NM that finds points of contact, collaboration and influence across regional, national, and international dance networks.
