The James Oliver Mitchell Archive Project preserves, organizes, and digitizes the lifetime work of photographer James O. Mitchell (1933–2021). The collection includes an estimated 6,000–7,000 pages of negatives and 800 surviving vintage prints and more than 500 rolls of undeveloped film. Current work focuses on careful film developing, high-resolution scanning, and basic cataloging to stabilize and study the archive. Mitchell photographed myriad subjects in New York, San Francisco across six decades. Every contribution helps bring additional photographs to light.
