Although largely forgotten today, James Waring (1922-1975) was hailed as "one of the most influential figures of the New York avant-garde in the 1950s and 1960s," "one of dance's great eccentrics," and "a focal point for dance experimentation before the existence of the Judson Church Theatre." Waring was a choreographer, dancer, teacher, collage maker, writer, theatre director, costumes designer, and composer. Above all, he was someone who, if you came in contact with him, changed your life forever. The project brings back Jimmy’s stories, re-introduces his ideas and revives his legacy, asserting his place in the history of American avant-garde.
