HISTORY
I started Making Moves: The Festival! in 2022 to bring fresh voices to the Kansas City dance community and to cultivate and support local choreographers and directors making thought-provoking work. The first year was a “mini-festival” – I brought one guest artist (Miguel Gutierrez) to town to perform and to lead local dancemakers through a 5-day creative intensive. It was a great success, with audiences enthralled by Gutierrez’s performance and workshop participants connecting to their own voices in brand new ways.
2023
This year, I am presenting a full roster of premiers by 6 Kansas City choreographers (much of the work was developed in the 2022 workshop). This season's choreographer cohort is Kennedy Banks, Alexis Borth, Lindsay Clipner, Olivia Emert, Kyle Mullins, and me. In August, I am bringing Alexandra Beller to town to lead local choreographers and directors through a different creative process. Along the way, I have Open Moves improv jams scheduled every other month. Every experience that I can bring to KC artists deepens the creativity of the work made and presented here.
I NEED YOU!
I cannot do this work alone. Making Moves: The Festival! is committed to paying all of our local artists, and bringing guests artists to teach our community to access creativity in new ways is expensive. Though we receive generous production support from Charlotte Street, it is not enough to get us through our full season. Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly to our artists!
Please share this fundraising campaign on the socials and with anyone you know who wants to support forward-looking performance! Thank you!
