Just ACTion is the umbrella term for the non-profit work I undertake as a socially-engaged, civic practice artist-facilitator through Just Act. I partner with organizations and communities to co-design hands-on projects that blend creativity with strategy, supporting people to tap into their natural ability to think critically and imaginatively, then act boldly yet with joy in the face of injustice. Through Just Act, I have been remapping theatre and story as active instruments in the broader process of participatory planning, civic dialogue, organizing and social action. All of my work reflects my ongoing commitment to collaborating with partners located in and/or serving marginalized communities and organizations without arts-centric missions to build deep, lasting impact through equity-focused collaboration. The work is about justice, done with humor, grit, and a whole lot of heart.
My unique, arts and community-based, resident-driven, Art-Powered Places model creates space for individuals and communities to share personal stories, build relationships, and uplift community assets, needs and visions. This refreshing cultural approach to organizing, activism, planning and engagement, supports participants to discover a deeper, embodied understanding of their role as civic artists, a sense of renewed compassion and emboldened courage to face challenges. Exercising their imagination, they take meaningful steps and an active role toward creating the just future they want to see for themselves and the world around them.
