We are dedicated to preserving and archiving the collections of the late artist, painter, and fashion designer, Katie Gallagher.
After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009, Katie established her own fashion line, Katie Gallagher, in New York City. Described by Vogue as “Fiercely independent and sure of her vision,” Katie utilized her deep understanding of textiles and construction to create original garments that were both long-lasting and form-fitting, following a body’s natural curves and outlines. Throughout her career, she never wavered from her vision.
Over the past decade, she completed 26 collections that premiered during New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. Her work has been celebrated by Vogue, The Cut, Elle, Glamour, Refinery 29, W, Interview, and Nylon, among many others.
Through her self-made success, she has been described as a great influencer in the fashion industry and an inspiration for fellow designers and labels, widely regarded for her original aesthetic, tenacity, and innovative pattern making.
The primary purpose of the Katie Gallagher Artist Archive is to continue Katie’s story and ensure her works are preserved for the benefit of fellow artists and designers, art historians, students, educators, and the general public.
By documenting, organizing, and contextualizing Katie's completed works and collections as well as secondary materials, such as her sketches and inspirations, we hope to gain greater insight into her creative process and find innovative ways to celebrate all that she accomplished in her short but inspired life.
We are currently creating a digital inventory of Katie's works. To date, we have documented over 500 individual garments and accessories as well as hundreds of patterns, sketches, and paintings.
Through our partnership with Fractured Atlas, we hope to secure dedicated grant funding, corporate sponsorships, and additional individual support that will help us build our capacity and further our work.
