Musically Me Unlimited is a life skills and empowerment program of King Creative Arts Expressions that uses music to build community and foster resilience in the lives of youth of color.
Our program currently centers the experiences of Black teen girlsas while adversity is a part of life, for Black girls, studies show that adultification bias and other systemic forms of oppression disproportionately expose them to more trauma, stress, and threat. This requires greater reserves of resilience for success throughout life that can be uniquely taught through an arts-based socio-emotional learning model.
Students rehearsing for the final showcase The structure of the program lends itself to an increase in coping skills and the tools to be resilient, providing a safe space for self-expression, and opportunities for increased self- esteem, self-care, creative expression and problem solving through musical and socio-emotional exploration.
With a learn-by-doing approach, the students are exposed to a variety of creative and musical mediums as well as team-building skills that culminates into a final public performance and the debut of the group's original song and other creative works that stem from the program.
