About

kirsten michelle schnittker is a performer and choreographer based in Los Angeles. A trained ballet dancer from age 3, schnittker pursued theatre roles in high school. They completed a Bachelor of Arts at Barnard College writing a thesis on the History of War and Social Change and performing in Barnard Dance department collaborations with choreographers Amanda Loulaki, Juliana May, Renee Archibald, among others. A Feldenkrais practitioner, schnittker applies the Feldenkrais Method of developing awareness in their dance practice. schnittker’s work has been presented by AUNTS, BAX, CPR, Danspace Project’s Draftwork series, Green Space, The Knockdown Center, Movement Research at The Judson Church, Rooftop Dance, Triskelion Arts, Junior High LA, Vital Joint, FIRST DRAFT, CRAWLSPACE and in various galleries, studios, and parks across LA, NYC, and Zurich. They were a co-instigator of Pie & Performance, a Brooklyn performance series (2017-19) that gathered artists across disciplines in their home, fostering community through experimental performance and pie. Over the past decade, schnittker has performed in the work of Yanira Castro/ a canary torsi, Diana Crum, mae may, Yvonne Rainer, Hadley Smith, Micheal Portnoy, Sam Wentz and others. In 2024 they presented Untitled (New Guardians) at G-SON Studios and led clearing sessions, a 6 week improvisation performance working group at CRAWLSPACE LA. Recently, schnittker performed in Darrian O’Reilly’s Worship the Sun King at Stomping Ground and Joan Jonas’ iconic Mirror Piece I & II at The Getty Museum.
