About

Project.KB is a Brownsville-based, dance-centered nonprofit arts organization with the mission to create a thriving local creative community that is inclusive, sustainable and accessible for all audiences and students.

Through our work, we aim to build resilient communities that can combat the various difficulties that our neighborhood is facing right now, including, lack of inclusion to Brooklyn-based funding, specifically in the arts, after-school programming, adult classes, unemployment, social isolation and mental health issues.

Through Project.KB, Brooklyn locals are equipped with cost-free educational opportunities, entrepreneurial knowledge, techniques for creative expression, mental health tools, and employment opportunities for artists that serve to build a sustainable economy through dance.

Our mission is to:

  1. To diversify the local economy through dance, providing not only employment opportunities to artists but to strengthen local community ties through the arts.
  2. To foster Brownsville’s future creative entrepreneurs.
  3. Improve community cohesion and self regulation, mental health and sense of belonging for the residents of a disadvantaged area of Brooklyn.

At present, Project.KB has three cost-free educational programs:

  • Finding Movement Through Meditation (In-person Class and Online - to regulate emotional stress and tap into creative flow, open level.)
  • In The Dressing Room (Conversations with local artists and Directors of other creative organizations about Creative Entrepreneurship - in partnership with BRICMedia and presented through their public television channels)
  • Open Rehearsals (A creative safe space for individuals and artists to take part, observe, or be inspired by the creative process).
  • Behind-the-scenes experiences (hands-on experiences and a behind-the-scenes look on set during production hours with Project.B Productions)

We are raising funds to allow us to pay teaching artists for a full year at our new physical space for Project.KB. In this space, we will offer free weekly classes ranging in styles: ballet, modern, latin styles, hiphop, and meditation for youth and adults. Project.KB aims to further break down the economical barriers to movement and creative expression. This means that community members who usually would not have access to these forms of art will have the opportunity through Project.KB, walking distance from their homes.
