Founded in 2014 by flamenco dancer Ania Bartelmus “La Candela”, La Candela Flamenco’s purpose is to promote diversity, equity, and acceptance through flamenco performances. Currently, La Candela Flamenco is focused on the creation and evolution of its project titled Inspiración which is a series of flamenco performances that fuse flute and piano with traditional flamenco. Inspiración series includes lecture performances that educate their audience about the art of flamenco, and its historical and cultural background. Through Inspiración, La Candela Flamenco would like to expand its reach and its mission to encompass a larger audience: To bring people of diverse backgrounds together, inspiring them through traditional and reimagined flamenco performances. With the additional funding, La Candela Flamenco will be able to present Inspiración in the form of scheduled performances that are either free or affordable for everyone in Metro Atlanta. This initiative will reach out and uplift communities that have never had the opportunity to experience flamenco. Moreover, the funding will enable the creation of other projects where artists from various backgrounds collaborate with La Candela Flamenco to interpret flamenco through their unique cultural perspectives. The outcomes of these collaborations will be shared through a range of public performances and educational programs. The funding will not only empower artists but also enrich the cultural landscape, fostering an appreciation for diversity and promoting unity through the universal language of music and dance.
