About

The play I am rewriting is a personal story loosely based on my mother's alternative (as well as some conventional) cancer treatment that ultimately saved her life. I am seeking to tell this story, to maintain that science is real, but we can also look into other ways to help treat a terminal patient. As with any medicine, it is a gamble and nothing is guaranteed, not even your life. But what if financial means come your way and you have options? This is the story I want to share: "What is it about cancer that makes people laugh? Nothing you say? Maybe this new play by Anna Capunay can make you dance, laugh and think about you choices involving cancer treatments. So let's go back in time to Queens, NY in the 1990s when you, your family, and your friends were dancing to new and classic Salsa, Merengue, and Latin Pop!" My retro setting is a way to tell my story, in a time when "Googling" was not yet a verb, when we had to crack open books and make phone calls; my story involves trust-- when the last person you thought could help direct you to save your own life, what is your choice?
