LA Laptop Orchestra is an ongoing public music practice based in Los Angeles. At each event, participants open a link on their phones and collectively steer the harmony while professional musicians perform within those choices in real time. The room becomes one instrument, shaped by everyone in it.
The project grew out of seven years of creative technology development and draws on traditions of participatory music and laptop orchestras, from Cornelius Cardew's Scratch Orchestra to Stanford's SLOrk. Through free public performances, workshops, and collaborations with artists and cultural institutions, LALORK creates spaces where strangers become an ensemble.
