About
LADY BANGKOK BOY is an experimental feature-length documentary that follows the life of Uma, a transgender woman of color who comes from a conservative Catholic community in Brownsville Texas, as she navigates shaming and discrimination in Trumpland in favor of acceptance and exaltation in Thailand. The story begins to unfold as Uma follows Stefan — our director — from the U.S. to Bangkok, Thailand in a journey towards self discovery. There she will meet a variety of trans females, also known as kathoeys, a drag queen and a trans male, each of whom are established in various professions and follows the belief that Buddhism embraces all living beings in contrast to rebuking and ridiculing those among us who are different.

Today, with the current administration delivering on promises to reverse President Obama’s policies protecting trans and gay communities, the fight is still underway to keep the trans-revolution in full progress.
This documentary exposes the vulnerability in each individual as they seek to become the very best version of themselves rather than solely to focus on what it would mean to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Decidedly, the film examines what lies beneath the scalpel and ultimately, is a celebration of acceptance and love.
This film will be produced by Lauryn Garza, Kojenwa Moitt and Christina Caparoula-Rich and Directed by Stefan Blomquist with Cinematography by Natalie Kingston.
