Who We Are
City of Asylum/Detroit is a member of the International Cities of Refuge Network, an organization of 74 cities offering shelter to writers and artists at risk.
What We Do
We bring over writers and artists who are in danger where they live because of who they are or what they make. We give them time, space, safety and community, and help them resettle here.
Why?
Creative workers are the safekeepers of democracy, challenging us to think across boundaries and beyond our assumptions. By protecting them, we protect freedom of expression for all of us.
Placemaking Through Art
City of Asylum’s programs evolve organically, in response to the way that our community and our residents interact. This helps us build an inclusive vision of neighborhood transformation through the arts.
