Sknkworks is run & realized by several anonymous artists who are dedicated to keeping mystery alive. Their backgrounds are in puzzle making, immersive theater, production and event design, enigmatology, and cryptography. They've been behind the scenes with You Me Bum Bum Train, the creation of The Signal Room in San Francisco and Oakland's Nonchalance, a number of clandestine art installations and sculptures that encouraged participants to take a fresh look at their city and landscape, and an ongoing and vast online puzzle known as Cicada 3301.
Sknkworks develops participatory works that invite people to engage more deeply with place, curiosity, and one another. Operating anonymously, the project creates experiences that unfold through mystery, discovery, and collective participation. The identity of the creators is intentionally withheld, allowing the work itself—and the communities that form around it—to become the focus and the wonder amplified via the anonymity.
Through site-specific interventions, games, and narrative experiences, Sknkworks explores how secrecy, authorship, and shared curiosity can transform ordinary environments into stages for wonder and connection.
