Based in Chicago, LMRM is currently one of few places in the world offering public access to a TC2 digital jacquard loom and the only one in the U.S. with an open studio model: no residency application, and no university enrollment.
Through rental equipment, workshops, events, and collaborations, LMRM strives to emphasize weaving as a contemporary art practice.
Knowledge-sharing is extremely important to us; we keep our workshop ticket fees low to ensure continued learning is accessible. We bring renowned artists in the field to Chicago to collaborate on specialty warp designs and expand cross-disciplinary discourse outside the university setting. We pay an upfront honorarium for their expertise, a travel stipend for folks out of town, and 70% of workshop revenue to the teaching artists. We only run a program if we can offer competitive pay for our instructors. By modeling financial equity, we nurture the communities we are a part of.
