About

THE STORY

Phoebe is caretaker for a lake house in rural New Hampshire. Whether she's hiding out or convalescing, it's hard to tell. It's September - the nights are getting colder. During evenings on the dock, a loon starts to approach, getting bolder as the days go by. It’s kind of weird, but it’s company. One day, Phoebe has a visit from a special friend. He’s brought a new girlfriend. Their presence makes Phoebe feel even more isolated than before, and when they're gone, it’s both painful and a relief. Suddenly a strange man appears. He claims to be a long-distance swimmer, but when Phoebe lets him into her life, she discovers he's not what he appears to be. Is he a threat, or could he be her salvation?

WHY DONATE?

Lost Nation is a universal story about loneliness, connection, and our complicated relationship with the natural world. During this past year of pandemic lockdown, whether we were sequestered with other people or not, many of us experienced separation from our homes, friends, and/or families. Some of us felt a sense of relief, even in the midst of all the grief and fear - it provided a time of reflection, quiet. But the pull of community, and love, is always present. This film looks at the struggle between solitude and togetherness and asks - what are the lengths we will go to to be with someone, be it human or not? We have assembled a racially and generationally diverse cast and crew of incredible talent that mixes New Hampshire locals with people from LA, Brooklyn, Minnesota, and even France, in the  hopes that this film can act as some sort of reflection of what we want the world to be, and tell a story that combines pathos, humor, and mystery.
