This one woman show looks into a family's past and a mother's dementia in an attempt to animate memories that are in the act of disappearing. Physical theatre artist and long-time Pig Iron School/UArts faculty member Sarah Sanford transmutes grief and anger by witnessing a family member's changes, acknowledging botched attempts at holding onto the past, and allowing an altered neurological state to take center stage. Part clown show, part tragedy, Love you mines the personal, the ancestral, and the medical while trying to befriend a slippery yet ubiquitous disease.
Sanford has a long track record of creating and teaching devised theatre in Philadelphia. Her performance work with Pig Iron includes Shut Eye, Obie-winning Hell Meets Henry Halfway, and Twelfth Night. Directing credits include the Philly premiere of Underground Railroad Game - Lightning Rod Special's Obie-award-winning play on race, sex, and power - and The Choice - InFlux Theatre's provocative and humorous show about reproductive freedoms.
On Love You Sanford is joined by director Alex Tatarsky - performance artist, absurdist clown, and writer.
Love you Love you Love you was presented in-progress at Philadelphia's Miniball Festival on March 30th, 2024.
The final piece is set to premiere this September at the Cannonball Festival - Philadelphia Fringe Festival's largest hub: https://www.cannonballfestival.org/
