Centered on the songwriting of Lily Talmers-- it is genre expansive but Americana-centered, and features lyricism that possesses a unique proclivity for the divine, and an ongoing fascination with the apex of sorrow and joy. It showcases a writer who is tireless, both musically and lyrically, in paying attention, and in seeking to heal people, reminding of our innate human connection in the midst of pervasive national division.
Most importantly, the songwriting is lived and actualized alongside the band members which bring it to life-- each musician involved shares in a deep connection to the music's meaning and making, lending each individual's expertise and years of study. The history of music and poetry sing out from inside each arrangement-- Old Time, Bluegrass, Jazz, the Folk Revivalist Movement, and even Greek Urban Folk (Rembetika) music all express themselves subtly in the musical choices. The poetry of writers as Emily Dickinson, Wallace Stevens, Leonard Cohen, and Biblical history all find themselves alluded to as well. It is musically and lyrically deep and transformative, ever-important qualities in a pandemic of shortening attention spans.
