A 10-foot ladder, haunting parents in mask, and a stage covered in smashed fruit. Lucien's groundbreaking reimagining of Romeo and Juliet doesn't shy away from the hilarity of this play while also grounding itself in the voices of silenced young people, and asking; What is human nature? In our Romeo and Juliet the young challenge the world’s forced conditions through guttural questioning. This results in acts of extreme love and violence. We see R+J as a proclamation to the greatness the rising generation holds.
After an electric run in Boston, audiences are raving for us to come to NYC and share this essential story. So we’ve packed up the clown car and can't wait to show you what revisions we have been working on.
Like the story of Romeo and Juliet, Lucien Theatre fights for change through the lens of love. We see division in our capitalistic world, we see diverse voices silenced, we see competition instilled amongst us and the lesson that we are not valuable until we earn our dues. We hope to counter all this through our adaptation of Romeo & Juliet.
What is Lucien? Lucien Theatre Company has been founded and built upon the persistence of young artists and the need for all encompassing collaboration. Through our consensus-based democratic process, we strive to be the leaders of a new sector of the theatrical industry. In doing so, we aim to illuminate more devised, democratic, and revolutionary theatre.
Who is ‘the 7’? ‘The 7’ are the seven founding company members of Lucien Theatre Company. The ‘7’ collaborate together as a collective while each spear-heading different and needed aspects of our company structure. These roles are titled ‘facilitator’ as to dismantle hierarchy among ourselves.
