Magdalen, The Film is a documentary that explores the inspiration behind the one-woman, multi-character play, MAGDALEN. The play is about the women and girls who were sent to work as indentured servants to orders of nuns scrubbing dirty linens day and night as penance for their sins in one of several Magdalene Laundries throughout Ireland in the mid to late-twentieth century.
In January 2023, I began imagining MAGDALEN as a film. Please watch

As a theatre artist, my mission is to use storytelling and performance as a means of
activism, invite the silenced voices into the room, bear witness to the truth, and give integrity to those shunned by society. Systemic injustice toward women and children continues, not just in Ireland but throughout the US, and in places like Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan to name just a few.
The resonance of the Laundries is
everywhere.
My production team and I are in a year of experimentation in 2024 with a film distribution goal by late 2025. We are hoping to achieve the following this year:
- Record three live, professionally recorded performances with audiences.
- Shoot individual, private scenes of the play at site-specific locations across the NY tri-state that will enhance the environment and experience of the world of the Laundries.
- Record interviews with people who have had experiences and connections to the stories in the play.
- Build out a website for the film.
- Travel to Ireland to capture footage of the Magdalene Laundry memorial in Dublin and Glasnevin cemetery where the women’s bodies were disinterred.
- Prepare to edit the film in 2025 and distribute it to festivals and streaming channels.
Please partner with us in bringing this film to life!
