art is a practice of transmuting and transforming in order to feel our most alive. art is the way that we practice our own magic. and it’s the way that we can make space to imagine the infinite possibilities in our future.

This is your chance to make magic with us.

MALACARNE is an experimental dance and performance ensemble with the mission to co-author transformative performance and dance rituals that fight reductive ideas regarding class, sexuality, gender, ability and ethnicity. Alice Gosti is a transnational immigrant choreographer, curator, hybrid performance artist and a main collaborator of MALACARNE. Her site-responsive performance rituals and live art installations examine how history, politics and place enter the body and condition how we move and relate.

MALACARNE is raising $30,000 in two weeks for their 2023 season.

We are calling this campaign GATTO NERO this is a spell / un incantesimo. An incantation for abundance to enrich the artistic spirit.

This spell will build in communal power over its two week run, erupting into a culminating performance and party at the Rabbit Box theater in Pike Place Market on Sunday, April 2nd.

We hope you'll join us for the party / la festa to celebrate this fundraising effort by MALACARNE originator, Alice Gosti, her collaborators, fellow dancers, and incredible supporting community.

You can support MALACARNE and the success of GATTO NERO by donating* at any amount that feels right to you. We have exciting pieces of MALACARNE merch, one-of-a-kind artworks, performance tickets and even a personalized Ritual Box with all the materials you need to conduct your own Ritual of Letting Go.

*Donations to MALACARNE are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas, and help cover artist, designer, administrator, production and rehearsal fees, plus costumes, tour management, marketing and administrative costs.

OUR 2023 SEASON

MALACARNE performs on the Seattle Monorail, and Volunteer Park Conservancy in 2023

MALACARNE is known to challenge the meaning of “stage,” transforming steamboats, airplanes and churches into performance spaces. The 2023 season is no different, with MALACARNE venturing into new spaces, creating ambitious in-person intimate performance rituals that bridge history and memory with architectural and emotional landscapes.

This season, MALACARNE is exploring the facets of home, belonging, with performances taking place in the historic Volunteer Park Conservatory, Seattle Monorail, a former Immigration + Naturalization Detention Center, and the Seattle Center to celebrate the return of Bumbershoot.

WHERE IS HOME - THIRD SHORE at Inscape (former Immigration + Naturalization Detention Center)

Where is home - third shore

June 17-19, 2023

MALACARNE and Alice Gosti are continuing their project Where is home, a project that centers immigrant identities. The first iteration of this project was the piece Where is home - birds of passage, which premiered at ACT Theater in Seattle in 2019. It will be performed by a cast of immigrants and supported by a design team of immigrant artists. Creating an experimental performance with and for immigrants.

Where is home is a multi-generational, cultural and community organizing performance collaboration centering immigrant’s physical stories. The project examines how immigrants, migrants and refugees are stereotyped, objectified and exoticized, while questioning assimilation as a survival tool and oppressive strategy deployed by settler colonialism and the Americanization process. Its aim is to foster an ecosystem of immigrant artist role models and a world that is embracing of immigrants.

MALACARNE returns to Bumbershoot 2023

MALACARNE and Path with Art

Path With Art Collaboration & Performance

Fall 2023

Since 2008, Path with Art has been at the forefront of a growing international movement that utilizes the power of art as a means to bring dignity, awareness, and healing to the complexities of the issues surrounding homelessness, and recovery from trauma.

While Alice Gosti has been a Path With Art teaching artist since 2016, this fall will be the first full collaboration between Path with Art and MALACARNE.

This eight week workshop series will consist of MALACARNE and Path With Art artists creating a dance work to be performed together in Fall 2023.
