Using painting, street performance, installation, poetry, and printmaking, my practice explores the complex meaning of "us" and "others." From 2008 to 2022, I lived in the US, and from March 2023, I decided to live in Japan to start my research on the local (Japan)’s meaning of "us" and "others." A quote by Ai Weiwei describes how Takahashi approaches her art practice: “If my art has nothing to do with people's pain and sorrow, what is 'art' for?”
Any social matter can be complex, many issues are tangled and stratified the layers of issues and classes. I will continue to research and create art projects to have some specific discourses around politics and society about the complex social structures in the US. This allows me to give deeper insights into differences and similarities in social stratifications in Japan and the US. I’m interested in collaborating with diverse people in race, immigration status, physical and mental conditions, religion, gender identities, and so on.
