MeenMoves' goal is to create and present dance-theatre works that are socially relevant and accessible while respecting the art and artistry of the ballet and Limon traditions. MeenMoves focuses on individuality, vulnerability, strength, and dialog. MeenMoves explores body language, cultural differences, religious attitudes, questions of identity, and the experience of the one who checks “none of the above”. MeenMoves asks, What are the limits of language? What limits expression? What is authentic community?
MadHops is MeenMove’s outreach program. It was founded to use movement to encourage underrepresented groups and individuals to find their voice. MadHops has received numerous funding grants and has had projects in Kenya, India, Japan, NY, and in its long-term hub in Toronto, Canada where it began in 2010. The program typically includes ballet and modern technique classes, as well as choreography and composition workshops, providing opportunities for participants to experience dance, develop their understanding and appreciation of the arts and to inspire them to fulfill their own potential.
