While the following terms are increasingly used to theorize the physical transfer of performance practices in contemporary art spaces—body as archive, body-to-body transmission, and muscle memory, little has been published about the specific and myriad ways memory transfer can occur. Responding to this gap, I’m in the early creative development stage to build Memory House, a living publication unfolding through different chapters, each exploring distinct ways memory is held in the body and asking what is a house for memory? Intended as a generous resource for performance practices and complex embodiment, this series emphasizes and publishes process.
