About

Mirror Theater Company was born from the idea that art, especially theater, has the ability to reflect ourselves and our world back to us. As William Shakespeare wrote in act III of Hamlet,

“The purpose of playing, whose end, both at the first and now, was and is to hold, as ‘twere, the mirror up to nature, to show virtue her feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure.”

At our best, we are kind, good, faithful, joyful, patient, and loving beings. But at our worst, envy and rage, hate and intolerance, pride and greed creep in and destroy our relationships and our souls. Theater is a chance to step back and gaze upon the mirror of society - the good and the bad, the easy and the complex - and ask questions of ourselves and the world around us. What does this vengeance lead to? Can joy and adventure heal a relationship? How do you decide who to trust?

What if we cultivated a spirit of curiosity when we take our seats in a theater? What if the story we see expands the empathy and respect we have for the people around us? What if we allow the story that unfolds before us to question our own actions and our own story?

Mirror Theater Company has lots to look forward to this season. We are launching our annual fundraising campaign, Back to Shakespeare, with two readings in NYC on September 3rd and 4th, please find out more here we would love for you to join us if you can.

We are also excited for our next full production in March 2027 at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village - more info to come!
