About

Much of early American music was never recorded—only printed as sheet music and then lost to time. This project brings those unheard songs back to life. Miss Maybell, in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Charlie Judkins, preserves and reintroduces songs from the late 1800s and early 1900s that were widely distributed but never recorded. Through careful research and historically informed arrangements, these works are transformed from static notation into living, contemporary performance. The project centers on Unrecorded Songs, a collection drawn from archival sources that revives overlooked composers and stories while making them accessible to modern audiences. It is presented through live performances at festivals, listening rooms, historic venues, and community spaces, often paired with storytelling that provides historical and cultural context. In addition to live work, recorded releases and digital content expand access beyond in-person audiences. Future plans include new recordings, educational programming, and partnerships with libraries and cultural institutions. By restoring these missing voices, the project preserves a vital but largely unheard chapter of American musical history—and ensures it can be experienced, not forgotten.
