Move to Change presenting artists have strengthened our community with their strength, courage, and tenacity in sharing their stories through movement.
In the coming years, your support will result in more BIPOC artists and audiences having a community that holds space for them as they are while increasing more IDEA in the dance field.
2020 Highlights
January
- 11 women/womxn identifying choreographers of color were chosen out of 40 applicants to present at this year’s Collective Thread Dance Festival
February
- Invited to perform in Dixon Place presents Under Exposed
- Held our second annual Collective Thread residency with an in-kind donation of space from Downtown Art
March
- Sold out in 2 of our 3 concerts for our fifth annual Collective Thread Dance Festival at Downtown Art; over 200 audience members experienced Collective Thread
April
- Received an IABD Emergency Grant
June
- Selected to present work in this year’s Jamaica Center for the Arts & Learning Making Moves Dance Festival
September
- 12 BIPOC artists, 6 national & 6 international, were chosen out of 100 applicants to present at this year’s Move to Change Dance Festival
- Presented a ‘reimagining’ of Nina Remixed for this year’s Jamaica Center for the Arts & Learning Making Moves Dance Festival live streamed on YouTube
October
- Held our first annual Me<We: a four week workshop with four teenage girls of color from an in-kind donation of space from Groove With Me
November
- Live streamed our first virtual dance festival, our third annual Move to Change Dance Festival; 105 people viewed the live stream and over 100 people watched the recordings of the live streaming
