I think of space time as a multi-dimensional reality, where time, being an element of sculpture, occupies that place of tension between stillness and motion, in activated form. I cut into steel I-beams or use linear steel rods, to draw out the space time volumes. This process allows me the freedom to express line and volume simultaneously. I use these raw materials to stack, add, subtract, and compose using welding, cutting and serrated stylized marks into the steel pieces that have a relationship to time, sound and movement.
Rust that weathers into color nuances add depth to the surfaces. Volumes, mass and negative shapes are linked by edges. Natural patinas allowed to develop over time enhance the expressive quality of the surfaces. These selected materials are transformed, by my constant engagement and manipulation, into sculptures that reveal beauty, power and carve out significant form.
