What I love about soul music is that it’s never been one thing, one person, one place. Soul music is not defined by color or birthplace, by money or vetting... at the core, soul music just has to be felt. Deeply.
My last album "Memphis Magnetic", and its companion piece "A Very Magnetic Christmas", released last year, were tracked live, with all the real ingredients I love and have become known for: slide guitar, drums, bass, piano, organ, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Memphis-style horns (trumpet & sax), plus the romance of a well laid string section (the Memphis String Quartet). And, of course, lush background vocals! Recorded at Memphis Magnetic Recording in Memphis, on incredible vintage gear, and recording straight to TAPE! It was a magical experience. For my 5th studio album, I will be returning to Memphis Magnetic Studio once again, but this time for a longer stay--a more fleshed out and less 'live' approach. I will be returning to my roots of soul and R&B, and delving into my inspirations from 70s and 90s music I love so much. The focus will be the songwriting and the vocals!
