About

The Music, Math & Literacy Project™ doesn’t wait for enrichment to arrive from somewhere else—we build the catalyst inside each school so the community can enrich itself. Anchored in daily group strings (violin, viola, and cello), we embed teaching artists who co-teach with classroom educators, train local staff, and leave behind usable tools: sequenced curriculum, an instrument bank with repair/maintenance support, and simple routines that make ensemble music a daily practice. Students compose, rehearse, perform, and reflect; teachers gain practical strategies to integrate music with core math and literacy; families are invited into open rehearsals, “bring-a-grown-up” technique nights, and free public showcases. Over time, the outputs—new ensembles, student-composed works, regular concerts, and a visible culture of practice—become inputs for the next cycle of growth. This is how cultural deserts are transformed: not by a one-time event, but by rhythms of participation that the school and neighborhood can sustain. We partner with districts, libraries, parks, and faith organizations to stage accessible performances; publish student compositions online at no cost; and offer multilingual, ADA-conscious materials so access is real. Evaluation is built in (attendance, engagement, ensemble proficiency, composition portfolios) and feeds continuous improvement. Within 12–24 months, schools host their own festivals, parent volunteers help steward instruments, student leaders mentor beginners, and teachers run standing ensembles—evidence that the community is not only enriched, but now has the capacity to keep enriching itself.
