Myth Complex Art House (MCAH) is the culmination of many years of collaboration in the partnership between Carl Cowden III and ShannLee, so we would like to introduce our team.
Carl has been a commercial and fine artist for over 40 years. As masterprinter for Berghoff-Cowden Editions from 1986-1998 and subsequently for University of Tampa’s visiting artist program, Studio-f, from 1999-2016, collaboratlng with local, regional, national, international and master artists to produce original fine art prints. He was UT’s Scarfone-Hartley Gallery preparator and framer from 1980-2016. Since graduating from UT, Carl continues creating and restoring murals, both public and private. As a commercial artist he designed and produced logos, ads, signage, billboards and illustrations for print and theater companies.
ShannLee, a professional photographer and videographer for over twenty years graduated from the University of Tampa in 2009 with a concentration in sculpture. While assisting in the Studio-f program, she became enamored with the screenprint process and after graduating became invaluable to the program as a colorist and digital technician. Her experience in faith and psychology is a major influence in Myth Complex Art House’s mission of caring and sharing through creativity.
Their experience in University of Tampa’s visiting artist program, Studio-f, is the model for MCAH’s collaborative studio program. Studio-f was initiated to introduce nationally and internationally renowned artists to the community by giving students and art enthusiasts an opportunity to meet these artists, see them working in the studio and attend a gallery talk by the artist that gives added insight into their creative process. As master printer, as well as an artist in his own right, Carl’s collaborative model has always been to make the screenprint process work with the artist’s own creative process. After Studio-f was moved to a new art studio building interested students were encouraged to participate with direct, hands-on experience in the collaborative process of creating original prints.
The purpose of our project is to create an art center in a community that has an emerging interest in cultivating the creative arts. Myth Complex Art House was formed to be a “full service art house” bringing the community to the arts and art to the community, allowing all individuals an outlet to express themselves with visual arts in a safe nurturing environment. We want to share our relationship with art by demonstrating how professional artists collaborate in the studio and gallery.
Our facility will offer a wide range of services including but not limited to: instruction, workshops, mentoring of youth and adult artists, visiting artist and artist in residence, documentation and art gallery presentation. Studios include a fine art screenprint studio, a photography and video studio and a sculpture studio.
We will make art available by providing a safe place to explore in an interactive, empowering process that contributes to health and wellness. Our facility can be a therapeutic venue for many community populations; children, seniors, underprivileged, emotionally or mentally challenged and learning disabled. These persons can create to express their feelings through hands-on experience, allowing them to process loss, grief, anger and/or trauma. All are welcome to participate in the discovery of their own creativity.
Please give what you can to help us build a safe space for creativity. We can't accomplish this work without you!
We want to thank you for collaborating with us and giving generously today. Please review our unique on-of-a-kind rewards for gifts to friends and family.
