About

NARRATION + DRAWINGS: Pan American Unity is a three-month visual arts project by San Francisco sculptor Hugo Hernández García, developed in 2027 around Diego Rivera’s Pan American Unity (1940). The project explores all ten mural panels and the historical world surrounding them, with San Francisco and the year 1940 as central points of reference. A ten-part interpretive narrative, guided by William Maynez, Director, Diego Rivera Mural Project, will accompany a new series of original contemporary drawings. Selected research will be translated into drawings produced with a fountain-pen plotter and completed by hand in fountain pen. The project will culminate in a public presentation at CCSF Mission Campus in San Francisco. The project brings together visual art, historical research, drawing, and public cultural interpretation.
