New Europe Books, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2022, is among the small handful of independent presses focusing on Eastern and Central Europe. In a year in which this region's impact on the wider world has sadly come into focus more than ever since World War II, we so want to build on what we've begun. While most people are reading fewer books, books still matter. Books spark discussions. Books inform decision-makers and so many others who help shape the perspectives of friends, family members, students. Books bring worlds alive. Books bring solace.
New Europe Books, publishes quality trade fiction and nonfiction, mostly from Eastern and Central Europe or written through a lens reflecting that region’s historical/cultural experience. Distributed by Minneapolis-based Consortium Book Sales & Distribution—an Ingram-owned firm that distributes more than 100 leading independent presses--it is based in Williamstown, Massachusetts, but works with authors, designers, and others from across Europe, North America, and beyond. Its books have drawn praise from critics, general readers, and academics alike.
