About

New Music Raleigh is a collective of dynamic musicians dedicated to presenting outstanding performances of music by living composers. NMR has filled a void in Raleigh's vibrant music scene, serving as a catalyst for creation and presentation of new music. Whether its through presentation of well established composers, up-and-coming composers, or cross-genre collaborations, NMR creates concert experiences that challenge tradition, engage and inspire diverse audiences, and give voice to today's most innovative and relevant modern music. The News and Observer reports that NMR is “one group of musicians giving Raleigh a decidedly grown up feel.”

Since its founding in 2009, NMR has presented music by Steve Reich, John Luther Adams, Missy Mazzoli, Paul Lansky, Nico Muhly, Judith Shatin, Belinda Reynolds, and has collaborated with the celebrated indy rock outfit, Lost in the Trees. Craig Jarvis of the News and Observer referred to NMR this way: “Classical music you might actually call hip.”
