Embrace the past and create the future: New Rising Sun Dance Project presents its work through performances and workshops to audiences and the dance community. Our focus is on education of our dance heritage and the creation of new works. In 2022, we will continue to focus on multi-disciplinary live arts. NRSDP’s past presentations include a Luigi Jazz Workshop, and lecture/demonstrations on Dance in American History-George Washington to the cold war, Women who changed the course of dance in 18th century.
Although 2020 and 2021 has been a difficult time for all of us, we are proud to say New Rising Sun Dance Project has kept its course and stayed active through the last two years.
Project Tapestry, a live concert collaboration between
Ted Daniel of Double Arch Music and
Tomiko Magario of New Rising Sun Dance Project, was presented by Ossining Public Library in February 2020 and October 2021 and featured original choreography and original jazz music.
An Imperial Message, a new multi-disciplinary arts project based on the short story by Franz Kafka, was presented live in the October show.
NRSDP has continued to work on new choreography through the summer of 2020 and 2021 at
Bethany Arts Community. 2022 will be a busy year, bringing all these new works to the stage for a live audience.
Why we need help
Here is the breakdown of costs for creating a new piece.
Sample costs for creating a 7-minute dance: Tapestry, a dance trio created using 7 minutes of the original score, was presented at our last show. It took about 20 hours of rehearsal time with dancers. Each hour cost $28 for studio rental. It costs $560 to set the work on the dancers. This does not include studio time the choreographer spent to work on ideas, concept, and base choreography.
Rehearsal studio rental costs: an hourly space rental fee for choreographic development and dancer rehearsals.
Artist fee: We believe that artists should get paid for their work. We always hire professional dancers to maintain a high standard of artistry.
Production cost: Costume, shoes, lighting, music editing, promotion video, stage manager, insurance, etc.
Administrative fees: It takes consistent effort to run the organization. Planning the performances, scheduling artists, promotion, fundraising, and more.
Please help New Rising Sun Dance Project move forward and let us bring arts to the people!
Sincerely yours,
Tomiko Magario- director, New Rising Sun Dance Project
