The story concerns a high school teacher who returns to work the same day as a school shooting, which sends her life veering off in entirely unpredictable directions. The theme of the musical is about trying to find a way to overcome the “us versus them” mentality that currently bifurcates our country, about learning to listen to people on the other side of an issue even if they disagree with your point of view. This musical will appeal to a wide audience, including every parent, every grandparent, every student, every teacher, every person who has ever tried to find a new direction in life, as well as every person who firmly believes they need a weapon to protect themselves. By presenting a story about one woman’s attempt to navigate her thoughts and feelings on both sides of the gun control issue, we believe this subject could resonate long enough in the American consciousness that both sides of the matter might begin talking to each other about seeking a practical solution.
